Hurry up and wait…

For those not familiar with healthcare, there’s a lot of “hurry up and wait” especially on the patient side. (As a healthcare provider, there’s a lot of hurry up and wait on that side as well, and we don’t enjoy it on that side either!)

Dr. N had me go to the ER overnight and get admitted so that I could get my port and we could begin a slow rollout or what he called a “piecemeal” R-CHOP chemotherapy. Unfortunately the Monday after a holiday was not the day to be an add-on case for the interventional radiology department so I ended up not getting my port Monday, despite the clinical director of the floor trying to get me in with the manager of IR and my nurse practitioner calling the radiologist. So John and I spent the wee hours of Monday in the ER and got acclimated to the oncology floor during the day.
