The day I came home from the hospital, my mom and I watched a movie called “Soul on Fire” based on John O’Leary’s life story. John was burned as a child and at one point during his hospitalization he used a white board to ask “Why Me?”
But I ask, “Why not me?” What makes me better or different than anyone else on this journey? Nothing, that’s what.
Ask me what makes me luckier than other people on this journey and I know the exact answer. My family. My friends. My medical team. Or as my Pastor said, my whole dang metropolis. I never set out to build a metropolis, or even a village. I literally just did what my parents taught me to do. Go out, love and care for the people in your life like you would want them to do for you. Never in a million years would I have guessed that so many people from so many “eras” of my life would come together in such a fashion to support me and my family. Whatever I have put out into the world, I am receiving back 10-fold.
I would never wish this on anyone, but the silver lining- finding out how truly cared for you and your family are, I would do do it again for that alone.
